Democracy was restored to the people of Canning, after 3yrs being tooled around by an assortment of investigations, the Barnett Govt, the WA Labor opposition, local govt reform attempts, multiple commissioners and City staff.
In the end nothing much has changed, but we did end up with entirely new councillors – many of whom seem never to have bothered getting involved with local govt prior to nominating to represent 100,000 people.
Assessments of the Councillors will be offered by CanningAccountability from from July 2017.
But first – five Councillors face re-election October 2017. These Councillors received the second highest no. of votes and therefore only an initial two year term. Did we get the Councillors hoped for? Stay tuned for perceptions of their performance from July 2017.
