Democracy was restored to the people of Canning, after 3yrs being tooled around by an assortment of investigations, the Barnett Govt, the WA Labor opposition, local govt reform attempts, multiple commissioners and City staff.
In the end nothing much has changed, but we did end up with entirely new councillors – many of whom seem never to have bothered getting involved with local govt prior to nominating to represent 100,000 people.
Assessments of the Councillors will be offered by CanningAccountability soon, and ongoing.
But first – five Councillors face re-election on Sat 21st October 2017. These Councillors received the second highest no. of votes in 2015 and therefore only an initial two year term. Did we get the Councillors hoped for? Stay tuned for perceptions of their performance. Update: There is Much Ado at Canning – this page will be updated to reflect this before the next local govt election on Sat 21st October!
