Just confirmed – Joe Delle Donne, Mayor of City of Canning, is a candidate for the seat of Riverton.

Only four candidates are running:

Joe Delle Donne (Independent) Hannah Beazley (Labor) Marcus Atkinson (Greens) Mike Nahan (Liberals and current Member)

Riverton is a marginal seat and a key player in who takes government next.

Mr Nahan holds it by only a handful of votes, and the Barnett Govt has showered the electorate with money in order to retain it.

Under the circumstances, Mr Nahan’s ability to negotiate and secure outcomes for Riverton otherwise, all things being equal, is difficult to ascertain.

Mr Nahan has been a constant and highly visible critic of the Council of the City of Canning, and now the City is under state control, with all democratically elected representatives removed for up to 2 years.

Canning’s valuable assets are being eyed off by Mayors of surrounding councils, who according to the state appointed Commissioner for Canning, Linton Reynolds, want a better deal to merge than they were offered by the Barnett Govt originally.

CanningAccountability was established out of concern that the community’s right to choose how we are governed, and by who, had plunged in to uncertainty.
